Lucca
Meet Gabriele, the most patriotic Lucchesi man in the whole city we are sure! Gabriele had such a passion for his city as he spoke of it's history and changes. He, as all locals, was particularly fond of the thirty foot wide wall-complete with beautiful trees and a park- surrounding and protecting their city. Because of this wall Lucca is one of the few Italian cities to never be attacked! He showed us the Duomo, and a Roman ampitheatre now turned tourist shops and restaurants. We walked through a museum with walls that were centuries old. Gabriele pointed out the city's towers and even said we could still climb to the top of one for an unbeatable view of the countryside! At his suggestion we had lunch at a local spot complete with Ceci, a garbanzo-bean crepe that is a local favorite. It made for a yummy cheap snack to keep us going.

Josh and I climbed the Guinigi Tower.
The 227 steps were worth it for the great view of Lucca and the hills of Tuscany!
On to Volterra!
