VolterraAfter Lucca we jumped back on the bus to move further south. At our next stop Volterra, Hotel La Lucinda would be our home for two nights.
We loved the small town of Volterra, the streets and buildings felt old. Possibly our favorite sight was the ruins of a Roman theatre that had been, until recently, buried under a soccer field! It was just steps away from our hotel! Our first night, after watching the sunset over Tuscany our group had dinner together of pumpkin risotto, pasta with almond white sauce, roasted pork and even wild boar! We had a blast chatting about what we did during our free time and eating way too much pasta. |
Rick Rocks!Another favorite moment on our tour was visiting the alabaster workshop. At Alab'Arte we watched a lump of stone turn into a beautiful translucent bowl before our eyes. The workshop was covered in a white alabaster dust and lined with statues used as models for their alabaster carvings. Later we went to the shop owned by Roberto and Giorgio, the artists, and bought some fun alabaster to bring home as a memory of our time in Volterra. It was extra special to meet the artist himself!

Day 5This morning we had breakfast at our hotel La Lucinda, then spent the full day shopping and browsing the food tasting booths. There was alabaster everywhere, in every shape and size you can imagine! See the bowl of fruit to the right...yep you guessed it; alabaster! The peaches looked good enough to eat, it was amazing how many things you can make out of alabaster. |
We loved our Hotel La Locanda, it was just off the main street. After our last night in Volterra we headed off to Orvieto. | Rick Rocks! Our second night in Lucca ended with a fantastic wine tasting with Annie's husband who owns his own wine shop. He taught us all about Italian wines and the art of paring wine with food for the best taste.

On to Orvieto!
